Choosing lighting for your home, and why to choose Shades of Light

When I knew we were going to replace all the lighting in our home I was looking for a vendor who could offer me three things: quality, good customer service, and a place that offered a multitude of unique lighting selections. I had been to every lighting store within 100 miles of our house and nothing was catching my eye. All the usual big box online retailers just weren't making the cut either. Things that were important in my search, next to quality, were being able to create a cohesive lighting design scheme throughout the entire house. I wanted something that connected each of the spaces. I wanted it all to feel like it "fit" together. That's when I found Shades of Light.
Delivery & Opening the box
Delivery of the items were absolutely seamless. The products were all bundled in their boxes so cozy between all the packaging and arrived safely to my doorstep. Not to mention on time and within the lead times listed on their website. The finishes were stunning! I swear I was like a kid in a candy store unwrapping them all. Carefully inspecting each one to make sure there were no blemishes and marveling at the amazing craftsmanship of the products. I'll be honest I hadn't seen any of the lighting before purchasing it. But their website and product photos were easy to picture what the finishes would look like in real life. The brass was so true to color its unreal! And having one of their catalogs helped me narrow the search.
Installation
I would love to say that I installed all the lighting but it was a HUGE job! And I don't like getting electrocuted, so I hired Cox Electric to do the job! They came in so swiftly and installed all of the lighting without a hitch.
If you're a handy person and have done electrical work before, the fixtures come with clear instructions and the necessary parts to install them.
Pros and Cons
During this process I did call once to check the status of some of the lights. I ordered them during covid and some of them had long lead times. Their customer service agents who helped me were friendly, easy to communicate with and very responsive.
The only con in ordering from them was that I couldn't find a ceiling fan that I liked. But I was able to score one from amazon that fit the lighting motif perfectly. It's remote controlled, has the modern vibe I was going for and was super affordable.
The Final Say
Having worked in the interior design industry for several years, purchasing hundreds of products for myself and my clients, and having access to a huge network of vendors, Shades of Light exceeded my expectations.
